Braving the COVID World

Aliso Creek and Wood Canyon Loop Trail. Moderate, 10.5mi Loop (of course, we didn’t hike the whole trail!)

While I’ve been working since the start of the pandemic, Josh and Sammy were mostly in quarantine. Sammy’s school pretty much went into shut down mode. She had only one teacher in Broadcast who held virtual class once a week. Josh, fortunately, was able to continue working from home. His set up helped with the childcare situation.
After a few weeks of doing bike rides and taking walks around the neighborhood, we decided it’s about time to leave our comfort zone. We are going on a HIKE!

The trail was light to moderate depending on where you are on the trail. We veered off into a smaller trail barely visible. I fell behind as we hiked further down the trail. At one point, I couldn’t see them. When I finally caught up to them, they said they could see my head bobbing up and down amongst the tall grass. I felt like we were going on a quest. Sammy was just starting to get into D&D.

Of course, there were critters along the way. One of the trails is called the Rattlesnake trail. The hike would not be complete without the sighting of a rattlesnake. Thank goodness I was carrying up the back. If I was the lead, we would all be in the hospital with rattlesnake bites. The snake had slithered under the bush and the rattle was camouflaged. I’m more of a city girl. I know my place in nature. Josh takes the front, Sammy in the middle and I’m last so I can run for help.

It was close to 5:00 when we finished the hike. Crystal Cove Beach was close by so we ventured down there to see if it’s opened. At this time, LA beaches were closed and only some OC beaches were opened with restrictions. When we arrived at the beach, lots of people were leaving. We got a parking space easily. We walked under a bridge and reached the shore. Sammy was super excited to get her feet in the water. So was I. We take so many things for granted and this was one of those things. We masked up and spend the evening watching the sunset. First sunset and beach visit in a looooonnnng while.
